The disease coccidiosis is caused by the unicellular parasite: Eimeria bovis or Eimeria zurnii.Description
Coccidiosis is an intestine illness caused by unicellular parasites (Eimeria bovis or Eimeria zurnii). The disease occurs in calves especially in animals in the age of 6 to 16 weeks. The incubation period (time between infection and the disease symptoms) is 15 to 20 days. The infection takes place, when eggs (oocysts) with eating or drinking are absorbed. Often this is with the changing to another barn or hutch. Often in combination with the weaning of the calves. The eggs multiply in intestinal cells and make this cell broken. This is why the intestinal mucosa is damaged. The symptoms depend on the infection rate and any additional infections. At a mild gradient are the calves listless, they have a decreased appetite and brown green dark diarrhoea with or without blood incorporation. In the event of a serious expiration is the diarrhoea mixed with blood and the calves can violently press on the intestines. At this stage the calves can dry out and die.
The diagnosis coccidiosis can be confirmed by manure research.
The calves build defences against the infection but often remain bearer of the infection. They secrete regularly oocysts and so provide a further spread and contamination. The oocysts are highly resistant to disinfectants and remain infectious. There are 2 possibilities as anti-coccidiosis method: Vecoxan and Baycox.
Coccidiosis is a condition that often prevents subclinical (no clinical signs) and unnoticed for a hefty growth retardation. Treat in time (before there are clinical problems) of the whole group is important. When you treat animals preventive with a natural vitamin booster can help.
