Definition
In the event of a navel rupture, the intestines of the animal end up in the rupture bag through the fracture port of the abdominal wall. The size can vary from a chicken egg to a child's head.Cause
A navel rupture is often hereditary. However, it can also occur after a navel abscess or by wounding the abdominal cavity.Description
In case of an umbilical hernia, intestines or hanging bands from the intestines (scale) pass through the fracture gate in the belly wall in the navel. The rupture port in the abdominal wall can vary in size from finger thickness to fist thickness. To make the correct diagnosis one has to put the calf on the back and see if the bulge can be brought back into the abdominal cavity. The animal will have little or no pain here.
In some cases, intestinal parts can become trapped in the fracture port. The clamped intestine parts cannot be pressed back. The closure of the intestine often has a fatal outcome.
