Cause
There can be several causes for baldness. Often internal causes can lead to hair loss such as:
- long-term digestive disorders
- individual hypersensitivity to certain feed components or medicaments
- individual shortages or increased need for minerals or vitamins (e.g. inborn increased zinc requirements).
External skin diseases can also lead to baldness:
- lice and scabies (see: Skin disease by lice)
- Skin fungi (ringworm, see there).
Description
Hair loss that leads to baldness can arise from various causes. In calves the bald spots are often seen on the head and on back legs.

Treatment
It is important for the treatment to remove or treat the cause. Vitamin preparations or zinc drink can be administered.
