Baldness, (alopecia) is caused by various causes.

Cause

There can be several causes for baldness. Often internal causes can lead to hair loss such as:

  • long-term digestive disorders
  • individual hypersensitivity to certain feed components or medicaments
  • individual shortages or increased need for minerals or vitamins (e.g. inborn increased zinc requirements).

External skin diseases can also lead to baldness:

  • lice and scabies (see: Skin disease by lice)
  • Skin fungi (ringworm, see there).

Description

Hair loss that leads to baldness can arise from various causes. In calves the bald spots are often seen on the head and on back legs.

  • long-term digestive disorders
  • individual hypersensitivity to feed components or medicaments
  • parasitic skin diseases (lice and scabies mite, see Skin disease by lice, scabies)
  • skin fungi (ring scab, see skin disorder due to ring scab)
  • individually occurring shortages or increased need for minerals and / or vitamins.

It is important for the treatment to make the correct diagnosis.

Treatment

It is important for the treatment to remove or treat the cause. Vitamin preparations or zinc drink can be administered.
